Documentary Evaluation
After watching the finished documentary I feel that it was
not as good as it could have been. We also made numerous mistakes through out
the process which both slowed us down and affected the quality of the final
piece.
The documentary could have been improved by:
The documentary could have been improved by:
- Improving the audio
- Better graphics
- More time efficient
- Better understanding of Premier
- Better framing
- Better cutaways
Mistakes we encountered whilst filming/editing the
documentary
- We didn’t turn the microphone on whilst interviewing someone. We didn’t notice this mistake until the next day.
- Whilst interviewing another person we forgot to put a tape in the camera. We didn’t notice our mistake until they had gone. This forced us to interview another person.
- General use of Premier, we made numerous mistakes whilst editing, forcing us to restart and change things.
Overall, our documentary would have been more time efficient
if we would have been more thorough when recording, making sure all of our equipment
was properly set up and working.
Also, the framing for one of our interviewees was not very good, slight adjustments in her position would have corrected this, for example she was placed on the right of the screen, looking to the right, simply having her look to the left would have made this a much better shot. The cutaways used could have been better, the framing wasn’t great and the camera was shaky. We didn’t have a very good knowledge of Adobe Premier, meaning it took a while to complete the editing process. If we had a better understanding of this then we could have been more time efficient.

Whilst completing this task I’ve improved my skills in:
- Using a digital camera
- Using the programme Adobe Premier to edit footage
- General information on documentaries
Using the knew knowledge I’ve gained from this project I can
say that I will be able to complete a task of similar nature without making
these mistakes again, and that the final piece would be of greater quality than
this one.
