Initial Plans

Title: Game Over
We put a great amount of time into the title of our documentary, eventually we decided to go with Game Over as it’s simple and snappy. When someone hears Gave Over people instantly associate it with video games because it’s a cliché. Our other main ideas for titles were ‘0 Lives Left’ or ‘Video Games: Win or Lose’ but eventually we decided that Game Over was the best idea because of how widely associated with Video games it is.
Topic: Video Games
We decided to go with Video Games because it’s an extremely popular subject that almost everyone is familiar with, no matter what age. If you don’t own a video console yourself, then the chances are somebody else in your household does. Video games are something which interests everyone within our group, so we already have a good knowledge of the area and an interest in what we will be researching and teaching on our documentary
Target Audience:  Males and females at ages of 10-40
Our documentary will target a wide range of people. It’s a common misconception that video games are primarily for a younger audience, but research on the internet revealed that the average gamer is 30 years of age. It’s also estimated that twenty nine percent of video gamers are over the age of 50, so our documentary will be appealing to both young, and older audiences.  With many different genres of video games there is something that appeals to everyone, even if they’re a boy, girl, old, young or anything else so it’s only fitting that we tailor our documentary to suit the needs of such a wide audience.
Channel:  BBC three
BBC three is the best channel for our documentary as it shows other documentaries and programmes that would appeal to our target audience. They show things which appeal to a large range of people, primarily under the age of 40. They show current in trend things, and Video Games are without a doubt one of the most popular things in the world at this time.
Scheduling: 7PM
We decided to go with an earlier timeslot because of the wide audience range we have chosen. 7PM is perfect for us because our younger viewers (10-16) will still be awake and watching the TV with their parents (30-40) If we had decided to chose times earlier then the parents would not be watching TV, and if we had decided to go later then we would lose our younger audience due to them going to bed.
